“The Event Taxonomy Atelier forced us to retire three ‘signup’ events that had been quietly double-counting since 2022. Finance noticed before marketing did.”

Product analytics taught as a discipline of attention, not a dashboard tour.
Layer Kernelcore works with practitioners who already ship software and still cannot explain why week-one retention moved. We teach App Analytics as a written practice: name the event, defend the cohort, and leave a ledger someone else can audit.

What people actually used after the last sitting
“Cohort Retention Studio is careful work. Week 4 assumed more SQL fluency than the prospectus implied; I spent a Sunday on JOIN hygiene that a primer would have saved. The decaying-cohort notebook, however, is still open on my desk.”

Cohort Retention Studio
Hold a cohort still long enough to see whether the product actually keeps people, or only appears to.

A naming convention that survives a reorg, a vendor swap, and a tired Friday deploy.

Find the silent drop that looks like a conversion because two steps share a name.
OverviewHow the studio teaches
We mark ledgers, not slide decks.
Each sitting begins with a property you already ship. You bring a raw export, a confused board slide, or a tracking plan that nobody defends. Tutors annotate in the margin: which event is a fact, which is a hope, and which should never have been billed as a conversion.
- Written critiques returned within five working days of each assignment.
- Office hours by appointment, not an always-on chat that pretends to be mentoring.
- United Kingdom case material — grocery delivery, media, and public-service apps — not Californian folklore.
A fragment from the file
Grocery delivery, north of the Tyne
A client in grocery delivery arrived with a “healthy” D7 that collapsed once we split new versus returning shoppers. The Mobile Session Diagnostics notes from that month are now a set piece in the atelier: crash-free sessions had been high, while the order-confirm event fired on a screen users never reached after a payment retry. The full account sits on the letters page.

Why retention curves flatten on day three
The quiet mix of onboarding debt and a cohort you should never have combined.
Enrolment
Write before you book a seat.
Tell us which property you measure and where the numbers currently embarrass you. We reply within two working days and will not invent urgency around remaining places.
